We’re proud to congratulate Mrs. Bauer and our very own #SamsungSolve team for being named a 2021-22 State Winner! It’s great to see their hard work celebrated as they work to develop a #STEM solution to an issue that impacts our local community. They have been working on microplastic research to address plastic pollution issues, toured the landfill, met with our county commissioners, and they are developing a social influencing program to incentivize sustainable behavior. You can follow their journey on Instagram @WEHSFriends. 💚🖤

Students in Ms. Walker’s Contemporary Studies classes at Wyoming East analyzed 10 primary source documents from the Prohibition era. For each document, students decided if it presented an argument for or against prohibition of alcohol. As a class, we discussed the documents and addressed the following questions: Does it show a positive or negative outcome of Prohibition? Does it identify a problem with the law? Does it present a reason why it might have been repealed? 🖤💚

Ms. Walker’s US Studies students at Wyoming East studied the Declaration of Independence. The lesson started with a reading of a "break-up" letter that was “found” in the classroom. The students figured out it was the American colonists writing to King George. After discussing the historical document as a break-up letter written to convince the world of the king’s abuses and that the colonies no longer wanted a relationship with Great Britain, students completed a texting activity to reinforce their understanding of what Jefferson wrote in the Declaration.🇺🇸❤️

Wyoming East students toured the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority’s (RCSWA) recycling center and landfill with the best tour leader Sherri Hunter.
They discovered the RCSWA’s innovative energy production using methane and Last Chance mercantile that sells perfectly good items that are thrown away. They rode some of the recovered bikes at Wooton Park.
Wyoming East’s students are learning as much as possible about plastic pollution and solutions for plastic waste for their Samsung Solve for Tomorrow proposal. 🚮🗑❤️
